NINA ERNST - DUNKLES LICHT

Singer and actress Nina Ernst has used the quiet phase to write new songs with her own lyrics. Melancholic, but also humorous, she gives the listener insights into her soul. The album “Dunkles Licht” (Dark Light) is like a painting of this time epoch, which is wrapped in a calm, mysterious sound with the arrangements of pianist Tino Derado and other top-class jazz musicians:

Nina Ernst (vocals), Tino Derado (piano), Max Hacker (flutes, clarinet, saxophone), Raphael Zweifel (cello), Andreas Weiser (percussion)

The German-language chansons contain various elements of jazz, oriental sounds, as well as lyrical songs. The love for Brazilian music and culture influenced Nina Ernst in writing her songs. The numerous trips to her favorite country had a great impact on her. Thus, two Brazilian songs by composers Nelson Ayres and André Mehmari / Tiago Torres da Silva can also be heard.

The album was produced by Nina Ernst, recorded in 2022 at Jazzanova Recording Studio in Berlin and released in 2024 by the label GLM Music.

2023 Nina Ernst has presented some pre-concerts under the title “Luz Escura” (Dark Light) with top-class Brazilian musicians, among others from Mônica Salmaso's band, for SESC São Paulo, as well at Brigitte Blair theatre in Rio de Janeiro. The release concert took place with the original line-up in 2024 at the UFA Fabrik in Berlin.

The music video for the song “Dein Garten” won the Munich Music Video Awards in the Best Art Music Video category in 2024. “Dunkles Licht” was selected as Album of the Week by SR2 Kulturradio and by Radio Magic City Six as Album of the month April. The AUDIOstereoplay magazine chose it as Treasure of the month.

The project was supported by Die Beauftragte der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien, Neustart Kultur and GEMA.

“Nina Ernst has an ethereal, spiritual voice and her compositions bring a lot of originality. Brazilian Bossa is a strong influence, which coupled with beautiful layers of reverbs and delays introduces music with a very original aesthetic.” - Ed Motta

“I loved the recording, beautiful. It made me very happy.” - Nelson Ayres

“I like the whole concept and this production has a high quality for me. I’m happy to be part of it!”- André Mehmari
